Clarion is home to PennWest Clarion, a PA State System of Higher Education School originally established in 1867. PennWest offers dozens of nationally ranked and recognized programs, and more than 100 majors, minors, and certificate pathways.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are multiple options available to hike, bike, kayak, and more. Clarion is 20 minutes from Cook Forest State Park, 35 minutes from Clear Creek State Park, and 40 minutes from the Allegheny National Forest. In addition to these forests, there are numerous trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding including the North Country Trail, Redbank Valley Trail, Allegheny Valley Trail, Armstrong Trail, Baker Trail, and Rail 66 Country trail. For fishing and boating activities, the Redbank Creek, Clarion River, and Allegheny River are just minutes away.
